Privacy policy

This policy covers www.jonathas.net, the personal site of Jonathas Costa, a software engineer in Porto, Portugal. For any question about it, write to jonathas.costa@gmail.com.

The apps linked from here have their own notes: the Salary Converter has its own privacy policy, and the Sudoku keeps your game in your browser only.

The short version

• There are no analytics or tracking scripts of my own, no forms and no accounts.
• The site includes Google AdSense, which can use cookies. Where the law requires it, Google asks for your consent first.

What stays in your browser

If you pick the light or dark theme, or how my journey is shown (as a list or a timeline), that choice is kept in your browser’s local storage so the next page opens the same way. It never leaves your device, and clearing the site’s data in your browser deletes it.

Who else is involved

• GitHub Pages hosts the site and may log visitors’ IP addresses for security. See the GitHub privacy statement.
• Fonts and images are served by the site itself: there are no requests to Google Fonts or other font services.
• Links to LinkedIn, GitHub and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

Advertising and cookies

The site uses Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google’s consent message asks for your choices before cookies are used for ads, and lets you change them at any time through its privacy and cookie settings link. If you don’t consent to personalised ads, Google can still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies or similar technologies only for purposes such as limiting how often you see an ad, aggregated reporting and fighting fraud, or none at all, depending on your choices.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data about you, object to its use, and withdraw consent at any time. The site itself holds no personal data about you. For data used by Google to show ads, use the controls above or Google’s own privacy tools. You can also complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, CNPD.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
